Jahrhunderts unserer Zeitrechnung ließ der byzantinische Imperator Justinian alle philosophischen Schulen einschließlich der Akademie von Platon in Athen schließen, indem er sich wünschte, Weisheitsliebe mit Stumpf und Stiel auszurotten und religiöse Dogmen als unbestreitbare Wahrheiten zu festigen. Von da an drehte sich die von Mystizismus und Scholastik bewegte Entwicklung des Westens beinahe tausend Jahre auf der Stelle.

Well, the West is no stranger to burying philosophy. In the beginning of the 6th century A. D., Byzantian emperor Justinian, wishing to liquidate the love to wisdom and to state religious dogmas as unshakable beliefs, closed all philosophic schools, including Plato Academy in Athens. Since that, the development of the West, driven by mysticism and scholasticism, had been stuck during almost one thousand years.
