907 Oleg on the ships "number 2 thousand" went on a campaign against Byzantium and approached the walls of Constantinople. The Byzantine emperors Leo VI and Alexander sent envoys, offered a ransom, and signed the first peace treaty with Russia.

911 Oleg signed a new agreement with Byzantium, which stipulated the terms of trade, the status of Russians in the Byzantine service.

913-Oleg's death. According to the chronicler's version, the prince died of a snake bite when he was going to go on a campaign "beyond the sea". Oleg was buried in Ladoga (now Staraya Ladoga). Igor becomes the Kievan Prince.

911-943. Igor's campaign to Byzantium, which ended in failure. On their return to Kiev, the surviving vigilantes told about the miraculous "Greek" fire that the Greeks used to set fire to Russian ships. "The Greeks have in their hands like the lightnings of heaven, which they let fly and burned us: that is why we did not overcome them," they said.

944. Igor's new campaign against Byzantium. "Russia is coming: they have a lot of ships; ships covered the whole sea," writes a Byzantine historian. The emperor sent envoys to Igor with the request: "Do not go, but take the tribute that Oleg took." Igor took the tribute and returned to Kiev.

945 g. The Byzantine co-emperors Roman, Constantine VII and Stephen sent envoys to Kiev with a proposal for peace. The treaty was concluded in Constantinople and sealed according to Christian and pagan rites. Russia pledged to provide Tsargrad with military assistance. In the same year, Igor was killed while collecting tribute from the Drevlyans.

946 g. Olga continues Igor's foreign policy line and makes a trip to Constantinople. She was twice received with great honor by the Emperor Constantine.

947 Olga goes to Northern Russia to strengthen its connection with Kiev and establish the state order there. The reign of Svyatoslav Igorevich in Northern Russia (Ladoga) under the supervision of Voivode Sveneld.

955 g. Olga visits Constantinople for the second time and converts to Christianity. At her baptism, she receives the name Elena.

969 Princess Olga dies (11.7). The chronicler recalls her: "She is a wife in body, but she has a man's wisdom." In addition to strengthening internal power and developing contacts with Byzantium, she made efforts to establish ties with the West, sending an embassy to the Holy Roman Emperor Otgon.

970-972. Igor's son and successor Svyatoslav "plants" his son Yaropolk in Kiev. Another son Oleg puts drevlyansky Prince. His third son Vladimir goes to Novgorod. In the same year, Svyatoslav opposed the usurping of power in Byzantium by Emperor John Tzimiskes. At the Dorostol fortress on the Danube, a battle took place (23.7) between the Rus and the Greeks. According to the chronicle it was in this battle that Svyatoslav uttered the famous phrase:

"Let us not put the Russian land to shame, but let us lie down with our bones, for the dead will have no shame." The Greeks barely overcame Svyatoslav and hurried to offer him peace. When returning to Russia, Svyatoslav was killed by the Pechenegs.

981 Vladimir makes successful campaigns against the Poles, the Prussian Jatwag tribe, and subdues the Radimichi. Under his control is the river route along the Neman, Bug and Vistula in the direction of the Baltic Sea. As a result of the campaign to the East, the Khazar Khaganate was defeated.

986 The choice of faith. The official religion of the state is the Christian Orthodox faith. Vladimir saw it as a tool for uniting the state.
